Extract from a report on medical services and conditions in the Kokoda
area up to September 1942. Of particular concern was the evacuation of the
wounded, the maintenance of medical supplies and hygiene of the troops in
the front line. This report details many of the difficulties in operating
in a remote area.

Report on the medical situation in Kokoda area in September 1942. This report picks up from AWM54 329/2/4 and expands on the issues of hygiene in the forward areas, and discusses more about the diet of the troops and some of the illnesses the troops endured.

Area, and L of C - by Major R.J. Humphrey - Sep 1942
A report on a counter attack by 39 Battalion AMF against Japanese forces
at Kokoda. 39 Battalion had earlier been forced to withdraw from Kokoda settlement
due to the strength of the attacking Japanese forces. The report gives a
brief background to the attack and includes details on numbers of Australians
and Japanese killed and maps showing the operation.
