Military Organisation and Structure
Army: The Arms: Infantry
The infantry are the fighting soldiers. Their role is to seek out and then capture or kill the enemy. The infantry is also expected to capture and/or hold ground. An infantry soldier's main weapon is a rifle and each infantry soldier carries what is needed to fight on his or her person. An Australian infantry soldier is traditionally known as a "digger" but in recent times the American nickname "grunt" has also been used.
