Thanks, Craig, for the section on the drivers, who played such an important role but often remain unrecognised. I am researching the story of a driver called David Mason (died of wounds at Ypres in 1917) who left England in spring 1914 to look for a better life in Australia, but enlisted with the AIF in November that year. He served in Gallipoli, France and Belgium but never made it back to the old country for which he was so homesick.

Thanks again for the really interesting site.

I look forward to visiting the display as both my Grandfathers and 2 other uncles served at Passchendaele one of the uncles was a driver with the 38th Bn.
All survived remarkably and returned to become succesful farmers and business men who raised good families and helped build our then young country.
I have also visited the battle sites around "Passchendaele" (this was the only word for it they used, I can not remenber them using the individual battle names)that I know they were involved in and will be returning for the 90th ANZAC commemeration at the Buttes memorial and cemetery Polygon Wood near Zonnebeke on the 4 November, that will be special event.
I have also got to know the people at the museum there and they are very supportive of the Australians and want to raise a memorial to all the Australians. I beleieve it should be for those that returned and used there experiences to build our young country, as well as respecting those that fell. If any one is interested in being involved please contact me; mark@harveyandco.com.au
