I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has relatives in the AN&MEF to New Guinea in 1914; and also the 20th Bn AIF. My grandfather was a member of the AN&MEF when they went to New Guinea and ousted the germans from there. On his return he wrote a book titled Australians in Action (Sig. L C Reeves). He and his mates then went to Liverpool and joined the 20th and related Battalions. We have been able to track down family of some of the members of these units, but would be interested in hearing from others. Grandday was lucky and came back to Australia in 1919 after serving with the 20th Bn. He later joined up in WWII and served at Randwick as he was too old to be posted overseas.

Can anyone help me in searching for a Lt./Cpl. John Alfred Benson NX22936. He was discharged from the Army in January 1945 from the 2/1 Pioneer Battalion. I would like to know if he is still with us as he would be 89. He was a very close friend of my mum's and i have letters and photos that were sent to her from him from Tel Aviv in 1941-42.Can I be guided to the right place to contact possibly relatives or John himself if this is not the right place. Thank you. Janice Poy,Albury.N.S.W

Dear Ian,

Thank you for pointing that out! The post has been amended accordingly and I'll pass your comment on to the photographs section so they can amend the catalogue entry for that item.

At the risk of sounding picky, the photo of the Menin Gate could not have been taken c.1919. It was not completed and unveiled until 1927. However, the rest of your blog contains really good information.
