		<description>Hi David,

You are right about 550 Squadron (Lancasters): the unit was based at RAF Grimsby in Lincolnshire during late 1943 - early 44. It then moved to RAF North Killingholme for the rest of the war. According to the RAF&#039;s own website for airfields and squadrons in Lincolnshire, 550 Squadron was disbanded on 31 October 1945.

For your continuing reference and interest, the RAF site I referred to is at: http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/index.htm.
The specific reference to Uncle Brian&#039;s unit is at: : http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/550sqn/550sqn.htm.

Details of training schools he attended should be in his logbook/s and in his personnel file. Personnel files for the RAAF, Navy and Army are held at National Archives of Australia. You can request a copy of the file and check out other RAAF record series in the Archives.
I suggest : http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/explore/defence/service-records/raaf.aspx#section1 as a starting point.

cheers,
