SYDNEY, NSW. 1913-10-04. FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, THE BATTLECRUISER HMAS AUSTRALIA (I) AND THE LIGHT CRUISERS HMAS MELBOURNE (I) AND SYDNEY (I) DRESSED OVERALL AFTER THE FIRST ENTRY OF THE AUSTRALIAN FLEET UNIT INTO SYDNEY HARBOUR. NOTE THE ANTI TORPEDO NETS AND THEIR SUPPORTING BOOMS PROMINENT ALONG THE AUSTRALIA'S SIDE. THESE WERE FOUND TO HAVE LITTLE EFFECT AND WERE REMOVED DURING WORLD WAR 1. FORT DENISON AND A PASSENGER LINER CAN BE SEEN IN THE LEFT BACKGROUND. (NAVAL HISTORICAL COLLECTION).
