An aerial photograph of the trenches at Lone Pine before the attack on the Turkish held positiions. Another photograph of the same positions taken in September 1915 is held as G01534an. Both photographs, including a detailed key, were published in The Story of Anzac, Volume 2 of the Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-18. See page 563. Other prominant features in the topography include Johnston's Jolly, the Pimple, Daisy Patch and Owens Gully. Although the original photograph was lent by Lt Col C H Butler, RAF, all the Brtitish aerial photographs taken over Anzac were taken by the Royal Naval Air Service.
