Smith, Sir Ross Macpherson (Captain, KBE, MC, DFC, AFC, AIF b.1892 - d.1922)
Description
Collection relating to Captain Sir Ross Macpherson Smith and his brother Lieutenant Sir Keith Macpherson Smith, World War 1. Collection consists of a competitors' log book, issued by the Royal Aero Club, London, for use in the England to Australia air race in 1919. Also included is a flyer related to the 10,000 Pound prize and the competition rules (on the reverse is a blank entry form), and supplementary rules. Smith and his crew, in a Vickers-Vimy aircraft accomplished the flight in in 30 days and were awarded the Commonwealth Government prize of 10,000 pounds. The other crew members were Sergeants J M Bennett and W H Shiers.
