Description

Coverage of King George and Queen Elizabeth visit to 617 (The Dambusters) Squadron RAF, Scampton Lincolnshire. Using the Barnes Wallis "bouncing bomb" eighteen Lancaster bombers of 617 Squadron attacked the Möhne, Edersee Dams and Sorpe dams on Operation Chastise 16–17 May 1943. The Möhne and Edersee Dams were breached causing major flooding of the Ruhr Valley. Shows Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC, DSO and bar greeting the King George and then escorting him to meet with members of the Squadron. Various shots of the King and Queen talking with members of the squadron. Various interior shots of the King and latter the Queen viewing maps, aerial photographs and of the raid.
