Disembarking on a remote section of Tarakan's coastline, one of many Indonesian patrols prepare to reconnoitre inland to clear the nearby country of Japanese stragglers. This patrol is part of the first combined AIF and Royal Netherlands East Indies (NEI) Army forces attack on the NEI. The soldier on the right is armed with an Australian made Austen sub machine gun and is pointing at what appears to be a small anti personnel mine.
