Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of 330 Sergeant Apcar Leslie De Vine, 4th Infantry Battalion. This diary spans the period from 25 May 1916 - 31 December 1916. It opens with De Vine returning from leave in England to France, and ends with the comment, "I have not been wounded since we first went into action on April 25 1915 and have not missed an engagement". De Vine comments on the weather, the fighting conditions and the casualties being suffered by both sides. During this period, De Vine "dined too well" (26 November 1916) and was court martialled with a reduction in rank, loss of seniority and a fine.
