Christmas Concert banner : HMAS Kanimbla

Rectangular hand painted banner made from white cotton bedsheets joined together. Across the top of the banner in large red and green lettering is the wording 'HMAS KANIMBLA CHRISTMAS 2001'. Centered on the banner is a multi-coloured painted panel featuring a side view of HMAS Kanimbla. Beside the image the lettering 'HMAS Kanimbla and the Arabian sunset'. The name of the artist, 'ABMT Carl Linkenbach,' is also recorded. Painted below the panel are a crossed RAN white ensign and an Australian flag. The left side of the banner is decorated with eleven coloured cartoon style kangaroos, some of which wear Santa hats, and all individually identified as representing a different catagory within the ship's crew. Below the group is the name of the artist, 'MONTY', and the date '2001'. Painted beside the kangaroos is the message 'A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT!'. On the right side of the banner is a painting of Santa holding a rifle and carrying a large sack over his shoulder. Beside is the name and signature of the artist, LSMED Kyra Puttifoot of Canberra, and the message 'Proud to serve and draw for all back home'. Below the Santa image is the wording 'BIN LADEN OR BUST!'. Written in black lettering along the bottom of the banner is the wording ' A CARL & MONTY PRODUCTION FOR THE SICK BAY ORGANIZATION DIRECTED BY - ARTIST FREEDOM CENSORED - KYRA'. Below this 'THE CAST AND CREW WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE SE'S, CARL, MONTY, SABRINA, SCOTTY D, NARELLE, KYRA, BIANCA, RACHEAL & ROB'. The banner is signed by all members of the ship's company as well as Admiral Shackleton, the Warrant Officer of the Navy, the Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and, Captain Du Toit, who led the MIF. One other group of signatures, which features their emblem, is that of Hotel Platoon, Seal Team Three, of the United States Navy.

Made by crew members of HMAS Kanimbla, and used as a backdrop during their Christmas 2001 concert aboard ship whilst serving in the Persian Gulf as part of the Maritime Interception Force, Iraq (MIF). The banner was designed and painted by Leading Seaman Medical Kyra Puttifoot, Able Seaman Carl Linkenbagh and, Able Seaman Stephen Montgomery.
