Description

Royal Australian Air Force pilot's machine embroidered qualification brevet on a dark blue wool ground. The brevet has white cotton embroidered wings on either side of the letters 'RAAF' within a pale blue embroidered laurel wreath, surmounted by a king's crown.

History / Summary

Worn by 262020 Flight Lieutenant John Joseph 'Jack' Pengilley who served in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War. Pengilley enlisted in December 1940 with the rank of Flying Officer and served as a Flying Control Officer at various air force stations throughout Australia until October, 1945. He was discharged with the rank of Flight Lieutenant on 27 September, 1945. Pengilley had previously served in the AIF and Australian Flying Corps during the First World War.
