AIF Returned Soldiers Association lapel badge. A rising sun and two soldiers are centrally located within the badge outside of which, in a circular frame are the words, 'RETURNED SOLDIERS ASSOCIATION AIF'. The whole is surmounted by the word 'PROTECTIVE' a lion's head and a King's crown. The scroll across the bottom of the badge reads `HOBART TASMANIA'. There are two lugs and a split pin on the reverse.
The Returned Soldier's Association (also known as the Returned and Services League) was founded in 1916 under the title The Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia (RSSILA) . The League's name changed in November 1940 to the 'Returned Sailors' Soldiers' and Airmens Imperial League of Australia' (RSSAILA) then to the 'Returned Services League of Australia' (RSL) in 1965 .
