| Description | Group portrait of soldiers from the 52nd Battalion. Identified front row, centre is 3400 Sgt John Alexander Spence. The soldier in the front row, third from left holds a unit mascot, 'Jenny', a monkey. The 52nd Battalion was largely made up of men transferred from the 12th Battalion hence the cancelled 12th Battalion colour patch worn by this group. Taken by Louis and Antoinette Thuillier in Vignacourt, France during the period 1916 to 1918. |
