| Description | Original grave marker of 1723 Private (Pte) Gerald Walshe Howling, 23rd Battalion, in the Vignacourt cemetery. Pte Howling, a draper from Geelong, Vic, embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 16 July 1915. He was killed in action on 23 May 1918, aged 30. (See DA09391 for portrait) From the Thuillier collection of glass plate negatives. Taken by Louis and Antoinette Thuillier in Vignacourt, France during the period 1916 to 1918. |
