The Australian soldier wears a sheepskin vest and mittens to ward off the cold in what was one of the coldest winters in decades on the Somme. From the Thuillier collection of glass plate negatives. Taken by Louis and Antoinette Thuillier in Vignacourt, France during the period 1916 to 1918. |
