Objective
By looking at the day to day lives of ordinary Australians living in extraordinary situations, students gain an understanding of the impact of war on Australian society.
The program
Step into another Australian's shoes and discover what it felt like to man a submarine, survive in a trench, be a child in the Second World War, work on a helicopter pad in Vietnam or as a peacekeeper in a country far from home. Education staff assist students with exploration of the Discovery Zone and then lead a tour of our galleries, relating displays to the Discovery Zone environments.
Discovery Detectives
Maximum number: 60 (limit of two sessions per school)
Cost: $1.65 per student
Teachers will be assisted to guide students through the five environments of the Discovery Zone and help them to understand the conditions Australians have faced in wartime.
Discovery Detectives sessions start on the hour and half hour and are available 10am-12:30pm and 1.30pm-4:30pm.
