Program descriptor

From their pen ... through their eyes ... Historians observe, record and analyse the wartime experiences of the men and women who served.  Our understanding of history is shaped by the information sources we use.

This program will give students the opportunity to look beyond the words of prominent historians and academics by giving the students an opportunity to become historians themselves.  The students will explore the experience of a First World War soldier through examining primary source material.  By using a combination of uniforms, equipment, firsthand accounts, modern exhibitions, poetry, art and official records students will discover how to make judgements on the validity or the usefulness of sources, and how they can influence historical study.
