Two bird pigeon trench basket : Tank Corps, British Army During the First World War each British tank went into action carrying a pair of carrier pigeons. The the birds were used when long distance communication was required. Other nearer communications were effected by the use of signal flags or voice. RELAWM04398

Objective:

To give students an introduction to the role of animals and the people they served with, in times of conflict.

The program:

A short program expanding on the A is for Animals special exhibition. The students will explore the role of animals in times of conflict by experiencing hands-on trolley items and discovering stories in the Memorial's galleries. At the conclusion of the program, students will be given an activity trail and directed to the exhibition.

After July 22 2009, the A is for Animals Exhibition will tour Australia as a travelling exhibition. Please check our website to see if this exhibition is at a location near you.

Price: $3.85 per student, minimum charge $38.50 (incl. GST).
