Romani diorama
Romani
Sculpture: Wallace Anderson
Painting: Louis McCubbin, George Browning
Romani depicts the Australian counter-attack against the Turkish forces on the long dune of Mount Meredith on 4 August 1916. It records the turning point for the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, in which the Turks were prevented from advancing through the Sinai towards the Suez Canal.
Wallace Anderson was chosen to work on Romani as he had served in the First World War and been to the battlefields. Romani took over two years to complete. Louis McCubbin painted the background and models. The original painting was obscured in 1971 during restoration work.
