Family history research often includes the period in which a family member may have served with the defence forces. Information about the individual may be found in such sources as births, deaths and marriages records, or in collections of records such as those relating to immigration. Some sources provide information about next of kin or place of birth. In general, all sources should be consulted. Many genealogical or family history societies provide helpful guidance on how to proceed with a family history search.
