Beating Retreat 6 pm until late
On Saturday 6 April the Memorial will put on an unforgettable show for the public. The skies above the Memorial will come to life with the sounds and sights of an exciting aerial display by the Roulettes and a fly-over by two helicopters – which will then land in the grounds for a viewing.
An array of rare military vehicles and equipment, including a Bushmaster armoured vehicle, a British Mk IV tank, a Japanese Type 95 Ha-Go tank, a German 10.5 cm field howitzer, and a Furphy water cart, will also be on display in the grounds.
There will be an engaging program of activities and presentations tailored to appeal to everyone, from those with a technical bent to families with children. Bring the kids along to enjoy the dedicated kids’ zone, where there will be a range of exciting outdoor events and activities on offer. There will also be plenty of indoor activities for families too. Listen to Memorial curators, who will present fascinating stories about many of the famous and intriguing items on display in the galleries.
The Open Day will end with a concert, commencing at 6 pm, by the Band of the Royal Military College of Australia , that will feature a performance of the renowned Beating Retreat ceremony with the Federation Guard Precision Drill Team. The concert will culminate in a stunning fireworks display over the Memorial.
