1918 Australians in France (small modified version)
1918
Australians in France (Modified) focuses on the great courage and
sacrifice shown by Australian men and women during the final year of
the war on the Western Front. With the Gallipoli campaign of 1915 already
behind them, Australian soldiers earned worldwide recognition for their
fighting spirit during the battles of Hamel and Amiens in France.
This is a smaller modified version of the highly successful exhibition that opened in Canberra in 1998. Its graphic panel format has been developed specifically for remote and regional venues in a dedicated attempt to reach as many Australians as possible.
The exhibition features stories of ordinary individuals who performed extraordinary acts in the face of adversity. There are first hand accounts and photographic images of Australians killed in action in the final battles of the First World War. The exhibition is an important tribute also to the thousands of men and women who provided medical aid on the battlefields.
The main components of 1918 Australians in France are four freestanding
'Skyline' structures with graphics, four double-sided panels and two
showcases containing a small selection of First World War relics.
