Shared Experience: Canadian Airmen in a Park
Roberts thought that better weather produced better paintings. From Britain he wrote to H.O. McCurry of the National Gallery of Canada in 1944:
In order to do some painting that I can really feel some satisfaction with I long above all for some summer weather …. With a damp cold wind tearing over the countryside my mind tends to turn to thoughts of a cup of tea and a spot of shelter.
