Period: The return to England
Roses and a blue kettle is the only oil painting known to have survived from the period before Bowen left Adelaide, where she took art classes at the School of Design, Painting and Technical Arts with Rose McPherson (later known as Margaret Preston), who had returned briefly to Australia from Paris. These lessons may have contributed to Bowen’s desire to move to Europe to pursue her art.
