Master of the battlefield - General Sir John Monash
Master
of the battlefield - General Sir John Monash is a cameo display
of the life and times of Australia's greatest First World War Commander,
General Sir John Monash. The exhibition includes the George Coates painting
General Monash Saluting the Cenotaph, and the bronze bust of
Monash by sculptor Paul Montford. These items contrast with the more
personal items, such as his army identification disc worn at Gallipoli
and the Australian flag carried in 1919 Victory Parade through London.
Also on display are a number of war souvenirs collected by Monash including
German Iron Crosses captured at Harbonnieres, shoulder straps from German
prisoners and a rare piece of the propeller from the Red Baron's plane
shot down in 1918.
This exhibition also toured as part of Two men - two wars.
