Australia in the War of 1939–1945. Series 5 – Medical - Volume Vol4
Volume IV – Medical Services of the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force with a section on women in the Army Medical Services (1st edition, 1961)
Author: Allan S Walker
This fourth and final volume of the Australian Medical War History describes the work of the naval and air force medical services and of the women’s services in the Australian Army Medical Corps. It also contains chapters on hospital ships, the Geneva Conventions and rehabilitation.
The naval section describes the development of the naval medical service between the wars, its expansion in 1939 and later, and its special problems and achievements in worldwide service on sea and land.
The air force story starts with the very beginnings of its medical service in 1921 and goes on to describe the wartime work of its medical men and women at home and abroad.
The third major section of the book deals with the various women’s services in the AAMC and, in particular, the nursing service.
