Australian War Memorial wins third national tourism award

The Australian War Memorial has won its third consecutive
national tourism award in the category of Major Tourist Attraction.
Never before in the history of the awards has an attraction received
this level of recognition of excellence.
“This is a great achievement for everyone associated with the
Memorial. I am delighted the work of our talented staff has been recognised
in this manner,” said Steve Gower, Director of the Memorial.
The Memorial was competing against Crown Entertainment Complex in
Melbourne, The Perth Mint, Port Arthur Historic Site in Tasmania, Kangaroo
Island in South Australian and Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo in
Queensland for the honour of Major Tourist Attraction Winner.
Judging took place against criteria such as visitor satisfaction,
marketing, education, training and contributions to the tourism sector.
The award confirms the Australian War Memorial’s position as
one of Australia’s leading cultural institutions and its uniqueness
in the world.
“This award is a significant achievement for Canberra tourism
and will undoubtedly increase tourist interest in all the national
institutions in Canberra,” says Steve Gower, “Canberra
is unique in having this collection of outstanding attractions”
