Description

Kure, Japan. The Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Robert G. Menzies, inspecting BCOF Support Company, 3rd Battalion, during his tour of the area. Shown: 4/172 Staff Sergeant J. Ryan; Private (Pte) F. Jenkins; 6/4604 Pte E. K. Bates; 2/45222 Corporal W. R. Ward; Major I. B. Ferguson, Officer Commanding; Lieutenant Colonel F. S. Walsh, Commanding Officer, 3rd Battalion; Captain (Capt) J. W. Callander; Capt Homerston, Aide-de-Camp; Mr Menzies. The Photographer squatting at centre and holding a Speed Graphic camera is thought to be Sergeant Claude Holzheimer, an official photographer with the Military History Section of the Australian Army. An unidentified movie cameraman, probably from a newsreel company is filming the inspection with a stand mounted camera (far right). Two other BCOF cameramen are recording the inspection. One is filming with a hand held movie camera (far left) and Warrant Officer Class 1 Harold Vaughan Dunkley (second from left, wearing a beret) is loading a new sheet of film at the back of his Speed Graphic.
