Notes: Flt Lt William Newton was executed by the Japanese on 29 March 1943. The Japanese buried his body in a bomb crater in Chinatown, Salamaua. His body was found by Australian troops in December 1943 and interred in the Salamaua War Cemetery. In January 1946 his remains were moved to the Lae War Cemetery as part of the post war consoldiation of smaller cemeteries.
