Australian War Memorial - Shared Experience: Art and War
Charles Comfort (1900–1994)
Commercial artist, painter, teacher, muralist, writer, poet, photographer and art gallery director, the polymath Comfort was an official war artist from 1943 to 1946. He served primarily in Britain and Italy. Well-regarded in his lifetime and involved in innumerable artist organisations, he is today a marginal figure in Canadian art history.
