Australian SAS: The Untold History Part 4 - 2 DVD set
Part 4: Fortress Australia
The Australian SAS: the untold history reveals the secretive operations and unorthodox military culture that make the regiment unique.
Where other Special Forces documentaries portray the superficial veneer of soldiers in fast paced action, The Australian SAS: the untold history goes beyond the media clichés and Special Forces action stereotypes. The series reveals the real people, and the creative and strategic flair in war and peace that have won the Australian Special Air Service Regiment – "SAS" – its place in the top Special Forces units in the world.
Part 4: fortress Australia sees the SAS fighting in a failing Vietnam. Combat strain begins to exhaust SAS patrols. In 1971, with not one man lost in enemy action, the SAS returns home to "Fortress Australia". Under the new "home defence" policy, SAS talents are not needed and the Regiment faces an uncertain future. But the enterprising SAS gains a reprieve patrolling Australia's vast northern coastline. Then the spread of international terrorism spurs the SAS to reinvent itself as Australia's crack counter-terrorist unit.
