To Fight And Do Our Best
Cate Clark
The 1st Australian Armoured Division in Gunnedah 1942-1943
In 1942, the 1st Australian Armoured Division moved to New South Wales to take part in exercises for war in North Africa. The 20,000 men of the division were never to collectively serve - half its numbers were sent to Western Australia.
This is the story of the division's time in the Gunnedah and Narrabri region. Told through the recollections of veterans and locals, To fight and do our best is an informal social history which celebrates both the soldiers of the 1st AAD and the towns that found a place for them in their hearts and in their homes.
