Battle for Australia: Part 1 - The fall of Singapore (Z Beach True Comics issue 3)
Hugh Dolan founded Z Beach True Comics with the aim of making Australian military history accessible to younger readers. Issue 3 of this ongoing graphic novel series is the first part of a factual account of the Fall of Singapore. Australia was unprepared in 1942. The country had sent its soldiers to fight in North Africa, leaving its shores unprotected. Prime Minister Menzies was more concerned with the defence of Britain than he was for his own nation. The Royal Australian Navy and the Air Force, were committed to defending England. There was not one fighter aircraft to protect Australia from the Japanese threat. Curtin replaced Menzies with only just enough time to send the poorly trained Australian 8th Division to the steamy jungles of Jahor. Historian and author David Howell has written a number of books as well as working as historical consultant and history researcher on several ABC and SBS productions. Cardboard cover and spine, illustrated in full colour, 52 pages.
Also available in this series - Gallipoli: The Landing (Issue 1)
