Flying the PBY Catalina DVD
Classic Cockpits series
A fascinating pilot’s-eye view insight into the cockpit of one of the world’s truly classic aircraft. Designed in 1935, the PBY-5 Catalina served with distinction in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres, as long range maritime patrol bomber and air-sea rescue aircraft. Catalina's also pioneered air routes over vast tracts of empty oceans, sometime staying in the air, in complete radio silence for more than 24 hours. After the Second World War, they continued to serve as transports and water bombers, but numbers dwindled over the years, and unfortunately only a small number of airworthy examples remain today. The aircraft featured in this DVD is one of them. This DVD takes the viewer on a modern day tour of the Catalina.
