The personal recollections of a group of Australian women are brought together in Girls' own war stories. They tell of the opportunities and challenges faced as a result of the Second World War, and how this period changed their lives and those of all women in Australia forever. Each learnt to stand on her own two feet, either through the challenge of helping her country, or struggling at home to support her family. These women helped lay the foundations for the making of a new outward-looking Australia.
