Operation Manna

Operation Manna was mounted between 29 April and 8 May 1945 to drop food to starving civilians in Western Holland, which was still in enemy hands. 33 Bomber Command squadrons were involved and dropped over 6,685 tons of food onto drop zones at Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam and Gouda. The operation came to an end when the German surrender on 8 May made it possible for food to be transported into these areas by road.
