Wartime

General information & submission guidelines

Wartime is a quarterly popular history magazine focusing on the Australian experience of war.

Target readership

Those with an interest in Australian history and military affairs. We aim to publish pieces written in a lively and entertaining style, for an interested, but non-professional, audience.

Submission information

  • Please email, phone, fax or write to discuss ideas first
  • Maximum word length – 1,500 words (but we prefer to run pieces of around 1,000 words)
  • We do not usually include footnotes or references, but an indication of further reading is sometimes useful
  • Submit via email attachment, or disk – IBM (preferred) or Mac. (Double-spaced hardcopy, but only if electronic submission is not possible.)
  • Please do NOT send transparencies, photographs, illustrations, or maps until asked to do so.  However, it is helpful to indicate up front what relevant material you have that might be used to illustrate the piece
  • We pay $300 per 1,000 words (at Editor’s discretion).
