OFFICIAL HISTORIAN OF AUSTRALIAN OPERATIONS IN IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN AND EAST TIMOR
David Stevens is a naval reserve officer and a graduate of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Australian National University (ANU). He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW and a Visiting Principal Fellow at the University of Wollongong. From 1994-2014 he was the RAN’s historian. He has contributed articles and essays on maritime strategy and naval history to many publications and his work has been translated into several languages. His most recent books as author or editor include: Sea Power Ashore and in the Air (2007 with John Reeve); Strength through Diversity: The Combined Naval Role in Operation STABILISE (2007); Presence, Power Projection and Sea Control: The RAN in the Gulf 1990-2009 (2009 with John Mortimer); and Naval Networks: The Dominance of Communications in Maritime Operations (2012). His new history of the Australian Navy in WWI, In All Respects Ready, was published by Oxford in 2014.
