OFFICIAL HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN OPERATIONS IN IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN AND EAST TIMOR
Since leaving the Australian Army in 2011 to pursue an academic career he has been employed by the UNSW as a post-doctoral research fellow. He holds a Master of Arts from the UNSW for which he was awarded the ‘Defence Studies Prize (Petro Fedorczenko Legacy)’ for the most outstanding academic record of a student completing the Master of Arts specialising in Defence Studies. He also holds a Doctorate of Philosophy from UNSW for which he was awarded the Army History Unit’s 2011 CEW Bean Prize for the best postgraduate thesis on Australian Army history. A revised version of his thesis was published under the title To Win the Battle (Cambridge, 2013), while his most recent major publication is The War With Germany (Oxford, 2015), a volume of the Centenary History of Australia and the Great War series. During his military career Robert held a range of command, staff and training appointments including duty with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, the United Nations and the Malaysian Army. His overseas service included deployments to Papua New Guinea, the Middle East, Malaysia, and Bougainville Island.
