The Australia-Japan Research Project
On 26 August 1996, the Japanese Embassy in Canberra and the Australian War Memorial agreed to establish the Australia Japan Research Project (AJRP) with a view to creating a database concerning Japan-Australia relations. It was to cover the period 1901-1957, with the initial focus on the Second World War and its immediate aftermath.
The AJRP was launched 30 June 1998 at the Memorial and closed in October 2009.
The project would like to express its deep appreciation to the Japanese government for its support, and sincerely thank the many Memorial staff, academics, volunteers and others who contributed to the project’s success over the years.
In February 2026, the AJRP website was decommissioned. An archive of the website is available via Trove, the National Library of Australia's Web Archive project.
