Description

Portrait of Flying Officer Ronald Neal, mid-upper gunner, Bomber Command, wears a C-type flying helmet and oxygen mask. This is a study for the painting 'Bomber crew'. Ronald Neal worked as an engine driver before enlisting on 27 April 1941. At the age of nearly 31, he was one of the oldest crew members from No. 460 Squadron to be sketched by the artist for her iconic painting, 'Bomber crew'.
