Awarded for participation in the operations to secure Shaggy Ridge in the Finisterre Mountains in northern New Guinea. This honour includes the extensive patrol operations through the foothills of the Finisterres and around Shaggy Ridge, the attack on John's Knoll (12-13 October 1943), and the two attacks made to actually capture individual features along Shaggy Ridge (27-28 December 1943 & 19-31 January 1944).
