This honour was awarded for the offensive patrolling operations that were part of the advance to the Puriata River, in Bougainville’s Southern Sector. The advance was along three axes: one battalion patrolling along the jungle tracks from the Tavera River to the Puriata; another battalion patrolling the tracks from Mosigetta to the Puriata; and a third battalion following the coast from Motupena Point to Toko.
