This honour was awarded for participation in the engagement on Makh Khad Ridge, south of Tel el Eisa, Egypt. Having captured Tel el Eisa, Australian troops continued the offensive, attacking and capturing Trig 22, on Makh Khad Ridge. An unsuccessful attack was made against Miteiriya “Ruin” Ridge and the Australians fell back to Makh Khad Ridge, where they successfully withstood heavy German and Italian counter-attacks.
