Currently installed in the Main Entrance Foyer, the Certa Cito Centenary Cube welcomes visitors to explore the rich history and continuing legacy of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals.
The sculpture created by artist Dr Richard Barrett provides an opportunity to reflect on the Corps' 100 years of service and its vital role in connecting people, information and operations across the globe.
The Certa Cito Centenary Cube has been made possible through the generous support of PentenAmio.
The Royal Australian Corps of Signals, officially formed in 1925, provides critical communications, information technology, cyber operations, and electronic warfare support to enable military operations.
They ensure commanders can control deployed forces anywhere in the world by managing secure networks, while simultaneously conducting cyber and electronic warfare activities to disrupt and interfere with enemy communications.
Sculpture design
Collaboratively designed, developed and built by current serving and retired Signals Corps personnel, alongside partners of serving members, the sculpture reflects the collective and interconnected nature of military service.
Artist Dr Richard Barrett led a group from the Signals Community to design and build the Certa Cito Centenary Sculpture located at Simpson Barracks. The group included current serving Royal Australian Corps of Signals personnel, veterans and family members from the Signals Community.
The Certa Cito Centenary Cube design is based on the Centenary Sculpture and was also built by members of the Signals Community. There are two other Centenary Cubes located at Victoria Barracks in Sydney and Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane.
During the Royal Australian Corps of Signals Centenary celebrations in November 2025, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals and Royal Patron of the Certa Cito Foundation, which is the official charity of the Signals Community, unveiled the Centenary Sculpture and Centenary Cubes in Sydney and Brisbane.
The RA Sigs badge anchors the sculpture as a symbol of service and identity. A lightning bolt combined with a wireless symbol represents communications capability across changing technologies, while a lightning bolt and raven reference electronic warfare and the unseen contest within the electromagnetic spectrum.
The Corps’ Latin motto “Certa Cito” is spelt out in Baudot-Murray code, acknowledging earlier signalling traditions, while its English translation “Swift and Sure” is rendered in binary code.
Additional Morse code spelling out “Signal Engineers” honours the Corps’ origins within the Royal Australian Engineers.
A poppy motif commemorates Signals personnel who have died in service. The sculpture stands as a tribute to the enduring contribution and adaptability of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals.
