Group portrait of men from D Company, 2/13th Battalion who have fought a rearguard action since the beginning of the withdrawal to Tobruk and are now guarding the outer defences of that town. In position a couple of hundred yards from the wire, are, from the left: NX18466 Private (Pte) Brian Francis O'Connell of Scone, NSW, who was later wounded in action in 1941; Pte Gulliver (with telescope) of Kogarah, NSW; NX14757 Company Sergeant Major William Goodman Kerry Henderson (partly obscured), of Kogarah, NSW; NX21066 Corporal Albert Landale; and NX24238 Pte Roy Francis Luck of Sydney, who was later killed in action on 29 November 1941 during the battle of Ed Duda. This image was first published in the Sydney Sun newspaper in mid 1941.
