Description

OWEN STANLEY RANGES, NEW GUINEA. SCENES IN A NATIVE VILLAGE AT EORA CREEK, IN THE JUNGLE COUNTRY THAT IS THE BATTLEGROUND FOR AUSTRALIAN AND JAPANESE TROOPS IN THEIR STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL OF PAPUA. SOLDIERS CONFER WHILE NATIVE TROOPS WAIT NEARBY, A SHORT WHILE BEFORE AUSTRALIAN TROOPS LAUNCHED AN ATTACK AGAINST JAPANESE FORCES IN THE AREA. Taken at the same time as Parer filmed the footage that was screened as "Kokoda Frontline" (AWM film F01212), this image was one of the last he took before having to discard his still camera. Note the Light Horse pattern leather leggings worn by the soldier in the left foreground.
