Among the Australian troops serving in the western desert at present is Sapper A W Kahn (right with accordion), well-known to New South Wales radio audiences as "bimbo", and of whom it is said "he makes mess-time bright with wit and song, and is as popular in the kitchen as he was on the radio. Also identified is NX34516 Sapper Thomas Macquarie O'Connor, 2/4th Field Park Company Engineers, of Port Macquarie (centre at cooker).
